John Mawhinney joins ISG to strengthen strategic partnerships in the retail sector

Thursday 26, February 2009

The two retail divisions of ISG plc - ISG Cathedral and ISG Pearce – have come together to appoint a single retail solutions director. This is a new position which underpins the group’s continued commitment to offering an end-to-end service to clients, based on partnership work at a strategic level, rather than operating as a prime contractor.

John Mawhinney, 48, is a former joint managing director of Mace Retail, which he joined in 1996 as a senior project manager. At Mace John oversaw retail food and retail banking and has worked with high profile clients such as RBS, NatWest, Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencer, Dixons and Tesco.

John will now head ISG’s new dedicated retail solutions team which brings together expertise from across the company to provide a one-stop-shop for clients and broaden its retail delivery capability.

His remit will extend across ISG Cathedral and ISG Pearce, to provide bespoke solutions for fashion retail, high street retail, financial retail and food retail clients. In his new role John will also have overall responsibility for marketing, business development and client relationship management.

He said: “Retail solutions director is an innovative and exciting role which is entirely focused on providing the very highest standards for our clients. Our retail teams at ISG Cathedral and ISG Pearce are leading the field in terms of the breadth of our customer offering. Our specialists have the skills and experience to meet their requirements and take the project through from concept to delivery. I am hugely keen to begin working on some very interesting projects with the dedicated teams here at ISG.”

Following a brief spell as a professional footballer with Watford , Luton and Tottenham Hotspur, John studied construction and surveying.

He lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and three children.

Darren Hill, managing director of ISG Cathedral, believes that John’s appointment is a great move for ISG Cathedral and its customers. He said: “I am delighted to welcome John to the board. His track record speaks for itself and John impressed the board with both his knowledge and vision. He has demonstrated exceptional success in retail project management and brings with him an incredible amount of industry experience, his expertise will greatly add value to our existing client relationships.”

Colin Forrest, chief executive for ISG Pearce, agrees and says the move sets a new standard for the industry. He said: “We believe in working with our customers to achieve high-quality, cost-effective solutions which have been tailored to their individual needs. We have brought John in as retail solutions director to further deliver on that promise and feel his past experience and future ambitions for the company will help to keep both ISG Pearce and ISG Cathedral ahead of the competition.”
